Thornton, speaking through his band The Boxmasters, disclosed that this project is not a traditional series soundtrack. Instead, he and country singer-songwriter Mark Collie took the initiative to write a song for the show, sparking momentum that brought him into discussions with MCA for an album release. The actor-songwriter confirmed co-writes with renowned artists including Ronnie Dunn, Billy Gibbons, Parker McCollum, and Dwight Yoakam.
This marks a distinct departure from the Landman Original Series Soundtrack composed by Andrew Lockington, which was released earlier and focused on atmospheric scoring aligned with the show’s Texan oilfield tone.
The announcement arrives as anticipation builds for the show’s second season, set to premiere on 16 November 2025. Landman, created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, stars Thornton as Tommy Norris in a high-stakes drama set amid West Texas oilfields, featuring co-stars Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and newcomer Sam Elliott.
Promotion for the new season has been ramping up. Paramount+ recently unveiled the premiere date while sharing new on-set photos, including first glimpses of Elliott’s character, T. L. The images depict key figures such as Tommy, Cami Miller, Angela Norris, their daughter Ainsley, and Andy Garcia’s mysterious Gallino.
Elsewhere, Thornton continues to integrate his musical passions with altruism. Alongside The Boxmasters, he is scheduled to perform at Texas’s historic Gruene Hall on 25 September in support of flood relief efforts. The benefit includes a sold-out evening concert and a morning Speaker Series event featuring a behind-the-scenes conversation and buffet breakfast, with proceeds aiding United Way of Comal County’s efforts.
Thornton’s dual identity—as both an actor firmly rooted in Sheridan’s dramatic television and a musician keen to bridge his creative worlds—is more pronounced than ever. The album’s announcement underscores that blend, bringing established stars from country music into the fold of Landman's narrative universe.
