The new Islamic funds will be available initially in the UAE and Nigeria, and will follow the multi-asset model of the existing Signature CIO suite, integrating global equities, sukuk, gold, and cash into diversified portfolios. The funds will be managed by Aditum Investment Management, while Standard Chartered will provide asset allocation advice and a quantitative manager will oversee global Islamic equity exposure.
Bank executives emphasise that the move underscores both client demand and the UAE’s strategic status in Islamic finance. Samir Subberwal, the bank’s global head of wealth solutions and chief client officer, said the launch builds on strong uptake of the existing Signature CIO Funds, whose assets under management have passed the $3 billion mark since their debut in 2022.
The existing Signature CIO funds, launched in 2022 in partnership with Amundi, have been offered across 12 markets and deliver exposure across equities, bonds, commodities and alternatives. Their compound annual growth rates have ranged from 5.6 % to 15.7 %.
Standard Chartered noted that by introducing Islamic versions, it is tapping into growing demand for ethically aligned products in the region and globally. Executives also flagged plans to broaden the fund range to cater to different risk and yield objectives.
Shariah oversight will involve Ebdaa Islamic Finance Consultancy coordinating with an independent Shariah Supervisory Board to ensure compliance with Islamic investment principles, such as avoidance of interest and speculative instruments.
Market observers see the launch as part of a broader trend: Islamic financial assets are estimated at over USD 5.5 trillion, with projections expecting growth to USD 7.5–7.7 trillion in coming years. The UAE is already positioning itself among the key global players in Islamic finance innovation.
Standard Chartered has in recent months strengthened its UAE presence in wealth and innovation domains. The bank expanded its private banking team in the UAE and has rolled out digital asset custody services in the Emirates.
