Residents in Sharjah can now access Careem Food, which delivers from local favourites such as Zaatar w Zeit, Zam Zam Mandi and Mashawi Al Halabya, in addition to international brands like Wingstop and Nando’s. The company is also launching Careem Box, for rapid courier pickup and drop-off within the city, and Home Services, covering cleaning, laundry and in-home beauty treatments. A promotion offering 50 per cent off the first three food orders under the code HELLOSHJ3 marks the debut.
From 15 October, Careem will introduce Careem Plus, its subscription programme, with anticipated monthly savings for frequent users. Later this year, Careem Quik will arrive in Sharjah, promising 15-minute delivery of groceries and electronics, along with the roll-out of Careem Shops and Car Rental services.
Careem’s ride-hailing and digital payments services, Careem Rides and Careem Pay, were already available in the emirate. However, until now Sharjah has not had the full stack of services that Careem markets as part of its “Everything App” strategy.
The expansion advances Careem’s objective to become a region-wide super-app. The company already operates across more than 70 cities in 10 countries, with a service portfolio spanning mobility, food, grocery, fintech and home services. Careem is majority-owned by e&, while its ride-hailing arm remains wholly owned by Uber.
In parallel with its Sharjah rollout, Careem has taken a minority stake in Swapp, a UAE-based car rental platform, enabling a deeper integration of car rental and subscription services into its mobility offerings. This move will allow users to swap vehicles dynamically, access lease-to-own pathways, and enjoy faster fulfilment.
Since July, Careem has been expanding its home services offerings in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in partnership with Justlife, with plans already set for those services to extend further into Sharjah. The home services extension includes cleaning, pest control, moving support, health-at-home offerings and more.
Competition in UAE’s on-demand delivery and super-app space is intensifying, with local players and regional entrants pushing to capture parts of the market. That puts pressure on Careem to maintain quality, speed and service reliability across its expanded footprint.
By moving aggressively into Sharjah with its full services suite, Careem is betting that the emirate’s population and demand dynamics will support adoption beyond just transportation and digital payments. The stepping up of promotional offers and subscription incentives suggests a focus on converting first-time users into regular customers.
