The three properties launching in the initial phase are SLS The Red Sea, The Red Sea EDITION, and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort, alongside Shura Links, an 18-hole championship golf course. These are part of a larger plan that will eventually feature 11 high-end resorts on the dolphin-shaped island.
Shura Island’s design is driven by Foster + Partners under the “Coral Bloom” concept, intended to harmonise luxury tourism with environmental sustainability. The development is powered entirely by renewable energy, uses advanced water management systems, and employs eco-friendly practices in construction and operations.
Guests will be able to access the island by boat via its own marina, or by electric vehicles over a 3.3-kilometre crossing, which includes Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge. Red Sea International Airport also connects the destination domestically and via newly announced international routes, including flights by Qatar Airways.
The hotels each carry distinct identities. SLS The Red Sea offers 150 rooms and villas, including beachfront and over-water options; The Red Sea EDITION has 240 rooms with 53 suites, plus multiple eateries and a spa; and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort is inspired by the surrounding coral reefs, designed to encourage a “barefoot lifestyle”.
Shura Links is being positioned not merely as a luxury amenity but as a sustainable one: only around 20% of the 140-hectare course is maintained turf, irrigation uses recycled wastewater, and soil moisture sensors are being used to limit water usage. A LEED Platinum certified clubhouse is part of the plan.
Residential properties on Shura are also progressing, with the first units expected to be handed over by the end of 2025. Residents will have access to the island’s amenities, beaches, resorts and leisure facilities.
