At the opening ceremony at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said presided over the launches of the Digital Triangle Project, a government-private-academic Green AI Alliance, and a dedicated AI Zone. RO 42 million in deals were sealed, reflecting increased investor confidence in Oman’s tech landscape. Also unveiled was “Maeen”, Oman’s first AI language model, designed to improve efficiency in government services and bolster digital sovereignty.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has rolled out several new tools to deepen engagement with citizens and businesses. A Unified Digital Services Portal now offers 30 services; a National Open Data Portal has been launched; a new smart assistant and mobile application were also among the offerings.
Participation at the event has been broad. More than 140 start-ups, 200 companies, and international delegations are present, working across emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital transformation. The Digital Triangle Project aims to build connectivity between key training hubs, research centres, and innovation clusters. The Green AI Alliance will facilitate collaboration spanning government, academia, and industry, with sustainability as a guiding principle.
Oman has set a target of having the digital economy contribute around 10 per cent of GDP by 2040, aligning with Oman Vision 2040’s goal of economic diversification and innovation-led growth. The National Programme for the Digital Economy will support this via expanded digital infrastructure, supportive policy frameworks, and enhancements in cybersecurity, e-commerce, and emerging technologies.
Another important initiative announced is the Omani AI Studio, intended as a platform to connect experts with government bodies, private sector firms, and academic institutions to develop AI solutions and build local capacity.
Workshops, forums and other ancillary events at COMEX are also focused on sectors with high growth potential. These include cybersecurity, quantum computing, creative sectors like gaming, and e-tourism, with the government emphasising public-private partnerships.
