Ajman Chamber Opens Pathway to Peruvian Trade Ties

Salem Al Suwaidi, Director‑General of Ajman Chamber, hosted Alberto Alejandro Farje Orna, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the UAE, at the Chamber’s headquarters, where both figures agreed on enhancing trade and investment between Ajman and Peru. The ambassador praised the robust economic strengths of both the emirate and Peru, signalling a mutual commitment to broaden industrial and commercial links.

The attendees focused on emerging opportunities within food industries, agricultural products and textiles, aiming to forge new investment pathways and deepen trade exchanges. Discussion extended to emphasising the diversification of cooperation channels, leveraging differing markets to drive bilateral trade growth.

Ajman Chamber showcased its capabilities and outlined investment prospects across critical sectors such as industry, tourism, education, healthcare and construction, drawing attention to Ajman’s increasingly adaptable business environment. Both sides emphasised the value of exchanging trade delegations, organising investor‑focused economic forums, and sharing data and statistical insights to support joint initiatives.

Farje Orna underscored Peru’s intent to strengthen trade and industrial relations with Ajman, pointing to the wide-ranging potential for cooperation. The meeting closed with an exchange of shields and souvenirs, symbolising goodwill and intent to collaborate closely in the future.

This development comes amid a broader trend of growing diplomatic and economic engagement between Peru and the UAE. Establishing relations in 1986, both nations have since pursued diplomatic expansion, including the opening of a Peruvian commercial office in Dubai and the UAE’s embassy in Lima. Trade flows reflect this trajectory: by 2020, trade volume stood at approximately US$530 million, making the UAE Peru’s foremost commercial partner in the Arab world.

Recent advances have included a travel accord signed in 2023 permitting direct Emirates flights to Lima, facilitating people‑to‑people and business exchanges between the two countries.

This meeting signals Ajman’s intent to align with that momentum, positioning itself as a gateway for Peruvian goods and collaborations across multiple sectors.
