Emirati Squad Dominates National Titles in Five Nations

UAE Team Emirates‑XRG recorded five triumphs across Austria, Portugal, Poland and Belgium during the national road championships held this week — extending their 2025 tally to 55 victories.

Felix Großschartner reclaimed the Austrian elite men’s time‑trial crown for a third time, riding to a decisive victory on 27 June. He followed that with a strong second place in the road race the next day. Meanwhile in Portugal, António Morgado powered to the elite men’s ITT title, narrowly edging out his teammate Ivo Oliveira, who subsequently took bronze.

On 29 June, Poland gifted the Emirati squad another win as Rafał Majka executed a solo attack to claim the elite men’s road‑race title — his second national crown, coming nine years after his first. That same day in Belgium, Tim Wellens staged a 40‑kilometre breakaway to outpace Olympic time‑trial champion Remco Evenepoel and capture the Belgian elite men’s road title.

Portugal saw further glory when Oliveira turned his Friday ITT bronze into a gold in the road race, overpowering Pedro Silva with a one‑minute lead. These dual successes in Portugal brought the squad to five national titles in a single week.

Across the country‑wide championships season, UAE Team Emirates‑XRG has now amassed 55 wins in 2025 — a remarkable campaign marked by victories in one‑day classics, stage races, Grand Tours and now national jerseys.

Großschartner, 31, noted the prestige of donning Austria’s colours on the WorldTour circuit, while Majka, aged 35, described his Polish win — achieved close to home and in front of family — as “one of the most beautiful victories of my career”. Wellens, after his Belgian breakthrough, admitted he had not planned to compete previously but decided to race after strong showings at altitude, hinting at strategic planning ahead of the Tour de France.

Team management underscored the strategic and morale‑boosting importance of these national jerseys. With key riders set to participate in the upcoming Tour de France — including Tadej Pogačar aiming for a fourth title — the national champion stripes serve as powerful symbols of form and pride.

Aside from the national crowns, UAE Team Emirates‑XRG’s 2025 season boasts high‑profile wins: Tadej Pogačar secured victories in the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Liège‑Bastogne‑Liège; João Almeida triumphed overall in the Tour de Suisse and Romandie; stage successes were alsoched by Adam Yates, Isaac del Toro and Jay Vine.

The team’s sweeping performance this week underscores its depth across disciplines. From elite time trials to road races, it fields a balanced roster capable of delivering results under varied course profiles and race conditions — positioning it as a dominant force not only in WorldTour events but also in national competitions.

With the national championships concluded, attention in the cycling world shifts squarely to the Tour de France. UAE Team Emirates‑XRG will head into the three‑week Grand Tour bolstered by national champions across four nations. The momentum built in this intense week may well translate into high expectations on the roads of France — where the added prestige of national colours can bolster confidence, visibility, and team morale.
