Tharoor's Role in Anti-Terror Diplomacy Sparks Political Debate

The Indian government's decision to include Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in an all-party delegation aimed at exposing Pakistan's alleged support for terrorism has ignited a political debate, with the Congress party expressing both support and criticism.

The delegation, part of India's diplomatic initiative known as Operation Sindoor, is set to visit various global capitals to present evidence of Pakistan's alleged involvement in cross-border terrorism, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. Tharoor's inclusion is seen as a strategic move, given his international experience and recognition.

The Congress party welcomed the government's decision, with the Kerala Congress stating on social media that the nation needs a voice that commands respect on the global stage. However, the party also took a swipe at the ruling BJP, suggesting that Tharoor's selection indicates a "talent vacuum" within the BJP, necessitating reliance on an opposition leader for such a critical diplomatic mission.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the government's approach, alleging dishonesty in modifying the list of MPs for the delegation without consulting the Congress party. He emphasized that the Congress had submitted a list of four MPs, and the government's unilateral changes breached protocol and cooperation norms.

Tharoor, known for his independent stance, has previously supported the government's actions against terrorism. Following the Pahalgam attack, he defended the government's response, stating that no country has foolproof intelligence and drawing parallels with Israel's experiences. He also lauded Operation Sindoor as a calibrated and measured response to terrorism.

Despite internal disagreements, Tharoor emphasized the importance of national unity in combating terrorism. He stated that the nation must stand united and that the government's actions were necessary to send a clear message to terrorists.
