The Department of Planning and Development (Trakhees), the regulatory body overseeing Dubai's Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, significantly ramped up its inspection efforts in retail establishments across its designated zones in 2023. The department conducted a staggering 22,249 inspections throughout the year, resulting in the issuance of 450 citations for various violations.
This marked a substantial increase from 2022, with the number of inspections conducted by Trakhees' Commercial and Retail Inspection Department more than doubling year-on-year. In 2022, the department carried out 10,692 inspections, uncovering 220 violations.
Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of Trakhees, emphasized the department's methodical approach to inspections. He explained that Trakhees meticulously plans and schedules inspection tours across various sectors to ensure comprehensive oversight.
