Keanu Reeves and Tim Miller Launch New Sci-Fi Thriller

Hollywood star Keanu Reeves has signed on to headline a new science-fiction thriller titled Shiver, which will be directed by Tim Miller, the filmmaker known for Deadpool. Warner Bros. is said to be in advanced negotiations to acquire the project, after producer Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films and Aaron Ryder joined the production.

The story is penned by Ian Shorr, whose previous work includes Infinite. According to descriptions of the script, Shiver blends high-concept elements: a smuggler in the Caribbean Sea becomes entangled in a double-cross, hunted by mercenaries and sharks, and trapped in a time loop until he can break free. The narrative has been compared to the Tom Cruise sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow and the survival thriller The Shallows.

Reeves’ participation comes amid a busy slate of upcoming works. He recently appeared in Ballerina, the spin-off of his John Wick franchise, and in Aziz Ansari’s comedy Good Fortune, though those films under-performed at the box office. Industry observers interpret his involvement in Shiver as a deliberate return to genre action film territory.

Tim Miller’s attachment to the film marks a prominent shift back to directing large-scale features. Miller made his mark with Deadpool in 2016 and later directed Terminator: Dark Fate. He also created the anthology series Love, Death & Robots, and now appears ready to tackle a novel blend of shark-infested thrills and time-loop mechanics.

Matthew Vaughn, known for Kingsman, brings his producer credits to the project via Marv Films, alongside Aaron Ryder, whose recent portfolio includes Dumb Money. The studio involvement of Warner Bros. signals high ambition for Shiver, with its genre-hybrid concept aiming to stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Behind the scenes, negotiations for studio backing are nearing completion. Reports suggest that Warner Bros. could finalise acquisition of the package imminently, giving the film a clear path to production. As such, Shiver represents one of the most significant announcements in the sci-fi/action genre for the coming year.

Some analysts caution that the film’s ambitious mash-up—sharks plus time-loop plus mercenaries—poses creative risks, notably the challenge of balancing innovative concept with audience accessibility. Reeves himself has faced box office headwinds in his most recent outings, adding pressure to the project’s success. On the other hand, Miller’s track record of visual innovation and Vaughn’s genre experience provide a strong foundation.

With production expected to begin in the near term, the film’s developmental phase will be closely watched by industry insiders. Casting beyond the lead, filming locations and a release strategy remain undisclosed, underscoring that the project is still in the early stages of realisation.
