In a move that highlights Saudi Arabia's embrace of technological advancements to enhance the pilgrimage experience, the Ministry of Health in Madinah has deployed a fleet of smart robots to serve pilgrims visiting the Prophet's Mosque. These robots, stationed in the central area surrounding the mosque, function as multilingual information kiosks, offering educational messages, guidance on navigating the surroundings, and crucial health advisories.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which emphasizes diversification and technological innovation across various sectors. The robots, capable of communicating in over 96 languages, cater to the diverse linguistic needs of pilgrims visiting from across the globe. This ensures that vital information regarding health precautions, safety measures, and directions is accessible to all visitors, regardless of their native language.
The Ministry of Health has emphasized that the robots complement the existing services provided by human volunteers and awareness teams. More than 220 volunteers, both men and women, continue to work tirelessly alongside over 12 medical teams to deliver round-the-clock health services and emergency assistance. These teams are strategically positioned at the Prophet's Mosque, its access roads, the Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, the Haramain Train Station, and other key locations frequented by pilgrims, including the Quba Mosque, Khandaq Mosque, Sayyid Al-Shuhada Mosque, and Miqat Dhul-Hulaifah.
The integration of AI-powered robots into pilgrim services reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to leveraging technology to create a more informative, inclusive, and safe pilgrimage experience for all visitors.
