Sharjah, Chennai Businesses Forge New Connections at Trade Forum

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) kicked off its trade mission to India by hosting the "Sharjah-India Business Forum" in Chennai on May 7, 2024. The forum served as a platform to strengthen economic ties between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India, with a focus on fostering business partnerships between Sharjah and Chennai.

Over 160 pre-arranged business meetings were held at the forum, bringing together representatives from Sharjah-based companies and over 100 Indian counterparts from Chennai. These meetings spanned a diverse range of sectors, reflecting the vibrant economic landscapes of both cities.

The forum's agenda went beyond facilitating individual company interactions. The SCCI delegation, led by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, explored avenues for collaboration with trade associations, industrial chambers, and investment authorities in Chennai. These discussions aimed to streamline procedures for Indian businesses seeking investment opportunities in Sharjah. Additionally, the forum fostered dialogue on how to leverage Chennai's position as a major commercial hub to open doors for Sharjah businesses seeking to expand their global reach.

In his opening remarks, Al Owais emphasized the longstanding and robust relationship between the UAE and India. He characterized these ties as a "leading model" for successful international economic partnerships, highlighting their potential for further growth. The forum served as a testament to this shared vision, bringing together business leaders from both nations to explore new avenues for collaboration.

By fostering direct connections between Sharjah and Chennai's business communities, the forum is expected to generate a significant boost in bilateral trade. The exchange of knowledge and expertise across various sectors holds promise for the development of new joint ventures and strategic partnerships. The forum's success paves the way for continued collaboration between the UAE and India, solidifying their positions as key players in the global marketplace.
