Recognizing Ramadan Spirit: Abu Dhabi Celebrates "Food for Rent" Volunteers

The spirit of Ramadan was extended beyond the holy month itself as Abu Dhabi Police, alongside the volunteer groups "Saed" and "Absher Ya Watan," recently held a ceremony to honor volunteers who participated in the "Food for Rent" initiative.

The initiative, which took place during Ramadan 2024, aimed to distribute Iftar meals – the evening meal to break the day's fast – to motorists caught in traffic during the critical pre-dusk hours. This thoughtful gesture ensured that drivers on the road could break their fast safely without resorting to speeding or risky maneuvers to reach home on time.

The ceremony, held at Bab Al-Qasr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, recognized the dedication and compassion of volunteers who played a crucial role in the initiative's success. General Saif Saeed Al-Shamsi, Director of Ceremonies and Public Relations Department at Abu Dhabi Police, emphasized the department's commitment to fostering a culture of volunteerism and collaboration within the community. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and social responsibility in spreading joy and promoting charitable acts, particularly during Ramadan.

The "Food for Rent" initiative proved to be a resounding success. Thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers from "Saed" and "Absher Ya Watan," along with the support of sponsors and partners, a staggering 90,000 Iftar meals were distributed to motorists across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain throughout the holy month. This not only ensured that drivers could safely break their fast but also helped to reduce the risk of traffic accidents during a traditionally busy time on the roads.

The ceremony served as a powerful testament to the positive impact that community initiatives can have. The collaborative efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police, "Saed," "Absher Ya Watan," volunteers, sponsors, and partners exemplified the spirit of Ramadan – a spirit of generosity, compassion, and social responsibility that continues to resonate within the Abu Dhabi community.
