Over 1,000 Lace Up for Abu Dhabi Inclusion Run

Celebrating a Milestone with Movement: The Abu Dhabi Inclusion Run, a collaborative effort by Special Olympics UAE and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), brought together over 1,000 participants on March 21st, 2024. The event, held at the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

The Abu Dhabi Inclusion Run offered a platform for inclusivity and community spirit. Participants of all abilities, including members of People of Determination clubs and centers, supporters, families, and friends, took part in either a 1.5km or 3km race. "People of Determination" is a respectful term used in the UAE to refer to individuals with disabilities.

This significant turnout signifies the lasting impact of the 2019 World Games. Arif Al Awani, Secretary-General of ADSC, expressed his delight at the community's enthusiastic response. He highlighted the event as a testament to the positive changes brought about by the World Games, specifically its role in promoting greater support for and participation of People of Determination in sporting activities.

The Abu Dhabi Inclusion Run wasn't just about competition; it was a celebration of diversity and ability. It served as a powerful reminder that individuals with disabilities have a significant role to play in the UAE's sporting landscape. The event fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity amongst participants, creating a space where everyone could come together and celebrate the joy of movement.
