Abu Dhabi Touts Flourishing Maternity Care Options for Expecting Mothers

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) is highlighting the emirate's robust healthcare system for expecting mothers, boasting a successful blend of natural deliveries and advanced fertility treatments.

In a recent press release, the DoH, the region's healthcare regulator, revealed that over 30,000 births took place in Abu Dhabi's healthcare facilities in 2023. Notably, 94% of these deliveries were natural, showcasing the emphasis on promoting physiological childbirth.

However, the emirate also caters to those seeking alternative methods of conception. For these individuals, a wide range of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) is available, accounting for the remaining 6% of deliveries. This commitment to comprehensive maternity care is bolstered by a team of over 2,500 dedicated healthcare professionals, ensuring expecting mothers and newborns receive the highest quality of service throughout their journeys.

The depth of expertise in Abu Dhabi's maternity care extends far beyond delivery. The emirate boasts specialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) who provide crucial prenatal care, addressing potential concerns during pregnancy. Additionally, skilled professionals in reproductive medicine and infertility are available to assist couples facing challenges in conception.

For mothers seeking pain management options during childbirth, a team of specialized anesthesiologists is readily available. Should any complications arise, a network of critical care specialists stands prepared to intervene. The healthcare system is further bolstered by radiology and sonography experts who provide vital diagnostic imaging throughout pregnancy. Finally, embryologists play a crucial role in the success of ART procedures, ensuring the viability of embryos.

Abu Dhabi's dedication to exceptional maternity care is further underscored by its impressive success rates in fertility treatments. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), a common ART procedure, boasts a success rate of 42%, placing it among the highest in the world. This achievement, coupled with over 4,800 couples receiving IVF and other fertility treatments in 2022, paints a clear picture of the emirate's commitment to helping families grow.

The DoH press release highlights the comprehensive spectrum of services available in Abu Dhabi, encompassing egg storage, fertilization, and embryo transplantation, ensuring expecting mothers have access to a full suite of options to support their family planning goals.
