Chery Bahrain has hosted the second Chery International Skills Contest, bringing technical professionals from nine Middle East markets together in Bahrain for a regional competition designed to test aftersales expertise and service standards. The event gathered technicians and service specialists from across Chery’s regional network for practical and technical assessments covering fault diagnosis, maintenance procedures, safety and customer-service disciplines. Organisers said the contest formed part of Chery’s wider effort to strengthen technical capability across its dealer network as vehicles become more complex and electrification increases the demands placed on aftersales teams.
The Bahrain competition follows the first regional skills contest held in the kingdom in August 2025 at the Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Training Centre. That event focused heavily on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and range-extended electric vehicles, with participants assessed on diagnostic accuracy, high-voltage safety, maintenance quality and efficiency under workshop conditions.
Nine countries took part in this year’s competition, according to the event information released by Chery Bahrain. The format was intended to compare skills across markets while giving participating professionals an opportunity to exchange working practices and technical knowledge.
Chery’s regional contests also serve as part of a broader skills-development structure linked to the company’s international aftersales programme. At the 2025 global dealer skills finals in Wuhu, China, more than 30 countries and regions were represented after regional qualifying events involving more than 2,500 technical engineers worldwide.
Those finals combined theory examinations with practical tasks covering high-voltage systems, new-energy vehicle technology and fault diagnosis. Chery said the programme was designed to improve consistency in repair standards as its global customer base expands and as technicians handle a growing mix of battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and other electrified vehicle systems.
Bahrain has become an established venue for Chery’s Middle East technical activities through its long-running partnership with Motorcity. Chery vehicles in Bahrain are distributed by Asian Motors, part of Motorcity, while Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo has supported training and aftersales operations connected with the brand.
The partnership has extended for more than two decades. Motorcity and Chery Bahrain were recognised at the 2025 Chery International Business Conference in Wuhu, where Motorcity received an award marking the longevity of the relationship and Chery Bahrain was recognised for its market performance.
Aftersales capacity has also been expanded locally. Chery Bahrain opened a service and spare-parts centre in Arad this year, adding four service bays, repair facilities and access to genuine spare parts. Motorcity said the centre was intended to improve accessibility and turnaround times for owners while supporting consistent service quality.
Skills competitions have become increasingly important for carmakers as workshop requirements change with electrification, advanced driver-assistance systems and software-based diagnostics. Hybrid and electric vehicles require technicians to work safely around high-voltage components while also understanding battery management, electronic control systems and increasingly integrated vehicle software.
Chery’s previous Bahrain contest illustrated that shift. Competitors were required to identify faults, use diagnostic equipment, apply prescribed repair procedures and demonstrate safe handling of high-voltage systems. Performance was judged not simply on whether a fault was corrected, but on the accuracy, efficiency and professionalism of the process.
The 2025 regional contest was won by Ra’fat Al-Doghmi of Chery Jordan, with Marjoe Manatad of Chery Qatar finishing first runner-up and Ahmed Zaki of Chery Bahrain second runner-up. The regional champion advanced to the global competition in China, while Bahrain’s Ahmed Zaki later secured a joint third-place result in the Chery brand category at the global finals.
Chery International has said its skills programme is intended to create common aftersales standards across markets while encouraging technicians to keep pace with new-energy technologies. The company’s global finals also included a service forum where representatives exchanged market-specific experience and discussed ways to improve dealer service systems.
