Jazeera Airways Reconnects Kuwait and Damascus After 12-Year Hiatus

Jazeera Airways is set to resume direct flights between Kuwait City and Damascus from 19 June 2025, marking the restoration of air connectivity between the two capitals after a 12-year suspension.

The Kuwaiti low-cost carrier announced the relaunch of its Kuwait-Damascus route, initially offering daily flights, with plans to increase frequency to twice daily by the end of the summer travel season. The service aims to cater to the substantial Syrian expatriate community in Kuwait, estimated at over 200,000 individuals, and to meet growing demand for travel between the two nations.

Flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft, departing Kuwait International Airport at 04:30 and arriving in Damascus at 06:35 local time. The return flight is scheduled to leave Damascus at 08:05, reaching Kuwait by 10:10. Tickets are currently available for booking, with promotional fares starting at KD 95 one-way and KD 159 for round trips.

Barathan Pasupathi, Chief Executive Officer of Jazeera Airways, stated, "We are pleased to restart flights between Kuwait and Damascus, a route of immense importance to thousands of Syrian nationals living and working here. This development goes beyond simply restoring air travel—it represents a renewed bridge of connectivity that links families, communities, and opportunities."

The resumption of flights comes amid a broader trend of regional carriers re-establishing air links with Syria. Royal Jordanian resumed services between Amman and Damascus in January 2025, and Qatar Airways reinstated its Damascus route on 7 January 2025, following the reopening of Damascus International Airport to international flights after the fall of the Assad regime.

Jazeera Airways had previously operated flights to Damascus, Aleppo, and Deir Ez Zoor before suspending services in 2012 due to the Syrian conflict. The airline's decision to resume operations reflects a growing interest in re-establishing business, cultural, and familial ties between Kuwait and Syria.
